Family Promise is a non-profit organization that provides a safe shelter for homeless children and their families, offering an alternative to sleeping in cars in local parking lots. The program’s budget is modest and provides a high return on investment. Family Promise organizes volunteers to prepare and serve meals and coordinates sleeping locations each week in area churches. By using volunteers, Family Promise leverages each dollar donated to the organization to provide more than $3 worth of services to homeless children and their families. This event will help raise money needed for operating expenses and bring awareness that there is homelessness in our communities. The goal of the community bike event is to raise $10,000. We need every community member to share the Family Promise story with their friends to help meet the fundraising goal. The money we raise will make a direct and positive impact on the homeless children enrolled in our program.
Our event begins at 9:00am in the Weissport park with a fun-filled bicycle obstacle course and prizes for small children before families depart for the trail ride. We will head North for this out and back ride giving riders the opportunity to enjoy one of our treasured community trails and to view the new pedestrian bridge spanning the Lehigh River in Jim Thorpe. Riders can choose their distance and will return to the Weissport Park for a catered lunch between noon and 1:00 catered by Ateira’s Catering followed by a basket raffle and bake sale. The rider with the most online donations wins an Apple i-Watch Series 3!! Simply have them make a donation under your name.
