Pennsylvania Elks Major Projects has received a grant from AllOne Charities for $12,500. The grant will provide funding for the project entitled “Navigating Health Services for Children and Adults with Special Need Who Live in Northeast and North Central Pennsylvania.”

The project will help provide six specially trained experienced nurses who will support 185 persons with disabilities and their families to find out about and access the services and resources they need to maintain and improve their best health possible. Services will be free and offered to families who live anywhere in Bradford, Carbon, Clinton, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Lycoming, Monroe, Pike, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga, Wayne, and Wyoming Counties. The grant funding will be used to fund travel to meet with families as well as a portion of the salary for the six nurses who will provide these services.

The PA Elks Home Service Program provides free in-home support and advocacy services to children, youth and adults of any age who live with a disability that began before the age of 22 as well as children and youth with special health care needs. Services are available anywhere in Pennsylvania. Nurses help each person navigate through the human service and health care systems to meet their needs for food, clothing, housing, healthcare, and safety. They can help address issues related to medical and mental health needs, education, housing, recreation, socialization, transportation, and vocational goals, among others. The program supports the individuals served to help them become active, participating members of the communities where they live.
