The Wright Center implemented a vaccine clinic for school-age children in high-need school districts in order to satisfy Pennsylvania school vaccination requirements. Through the summer months, a team held seven vaccine clinics in the Hazelton, Wilkes Barre, Scranton and Pocono Mountain Area School Districts. 910 vaccines were administered to 398 patients. More than two thirds of the patients served were uninsured or had medical assistance coverage. The Wright Center could meet the needs of children who otherwise would have been unlikely to receive vaccines due to various barriers. The impact of children not being vaccinated include not only medical implications but also educational as students risk exclusion from school.
