AllOne Charities has partnered with a committee of second year medical students from Geisinger School of Medicine on Turkey Trot, an annual event benefiting Friends of the Poor. Specifically, the event raises essential funds to purchase holiday meals for those in need.
About Friends of the Poor
The mission of Friends of the Poor is to bring together in friendship those who have the desire to give with those who are in need of assistance, in order to ease the burden of living in poverty and enhance the quality of life for all. Friends of the Poor was founded by Sister Adrian Barrett, IHM, in 1986, and is sponsored by the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Friends of the Poor is a non-profit charitable organization. In keeping with that mission and history, Friends of the Poor operates as a very unique organization. In their daily workings they provide for basic needs with food, clothing, emergency assistance, house hold items and furniture. In addition to these essential programs they also like to host events that bring hope and brighten up the holidays. They serve a wide range of people from senior holiday dinners to children’s after school programs and field trips.
