Victims Resource Center received $100,000 from the AllOne Foundation to hire a full-time Human Trafficking Advocate. The position will work directly with survivors of human trafficking to connect them with the necessary services so that they can live a life free from trafficking. This Advocate will also collaborate with other professionals including hospitals, health care facilities, drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities and law enforcement to provide training on screening for human trafficking victims and also how to respond to a disclosure.
“We have seen in increases in the number of human trafficking victims served over the past four years. In 2019 Victims Resource Center served just one human trafficking victim; In 2020 four victims were served; In 2021 fourteen were served; and in 2022 twenty victims were served. While these numbers may not seem like a lot, human trafficking is notoriously underreported. Not only has there been an increased awareness about human trafficking, but also there has been an increased level of collaboration between the many systems that encounter victims, due in large part to the efforts of the Northeast Pennsylvania Task Force Against Human Trafficking. There has been a realization that no one organization or system can do this work alone. Traffickers thrive when systems do not collaborate and we must work together if we are going to solve this problem.” – Suzanne Beck, CEO, Victims Resource Center
