AllOne Charities had a very successful spring race season, working with six organizations to raise funds for a wide range of important causes. AllOne Charities serves as the fiscal sponsor for races throughout its 13-county region and has raised more than $2 million for health-related causes through these partnership events.
The race season started on a rainy April day with Progressive Rehab Brain Injury Care’s Walk, Run, Roll Spring 5K. With 100+ participants, the event was their biggest yet, raising funds to support their programs and clients.
The Miller Mountain Trail Challenge (MMTC) and May Day were next, both on May 9th. Rainy weather continued, but it didn’t damper support from either community. MMTC offered a challenging 25K and 5‑mile run/hike with up to 4,700 feet of elevation gain on Miller Mountain in Tunkhannock. The race raised funds for Countryside Conservancy and the Wyoming County United Way.
May Day featured a 5K and 10K walk/run and kids fun run, starting and ending at Watertower Square in Williamsport. Having raised about $200,000 since its inception, May Day raises funds for the American Cancer Society each year.
Next was the Scranton School for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children’s Run with the Bears and Cub Walk. There were clear skies at last, and participants enjoyed a 5-mile run/walk or 1-mile fun walk in the sunshine. Students from the school designed the prizes for winning runners and walkers. Check out the slide show to see a photo of the students’ beautiful work!
Our spring season wrapped up with a stunning blue-sky day near Tunkhannock for the Damon S. Young Memorial Race, a new and meaningful partnership for AllOne Charities. The event honors Damon, who passed away from kidney cancer at age 24 and hoped for an annual race to support a scholarship fund for Tunkhannock High School seniors. His family has carried that wish forward since 2007, and AllOne Charities is grateful to join them in continuing his legacy.
