When SHINE of Luzerne County faced financial difficulties last year, AllOne Charities collaborated with other local organizations to address the funding shortfall. After the state declined to renew funding for the 2024-2025 school year, AllOne Charities, together with the Earth Conservancy, the Luzerne Foundation, United Way of Wyoming Valley, and the William G. McGowan Charitable Fund, contributed $500,000 to ensure SHINE could continue providing support to students and their families.
SHINE is a STEAM project-based after school program for 1st through 8th grade students. The program offers essential services, including homework assistance, nutritious meals, and project-based learning from September to May. During the summer, students participate in the STEM Olympiad, showcasing their skills in science, technology, engineering, and math. The program also provides students with a preview of their future through the College for a Day initiative. This program allows students to explore careers in fields such as nursing, pharmacy and broadcasting.
Beyond academic support, SHINE plays a vital role in strengthening families by offering access to social services, educational opportunities, financial literacy programs, and career readiness. Over the past decade, SHINE has positively impacted nearly 5,000 students and their families.
AllOne Charities is honored to play a crucial role in sustaining this vital program during a challenging time.
