AllOne Charities, in collaboration with Highmark and the Pasco L. Schiavo Memorial Fund of the Luzerne Foundation aided in the collaborative funding to make improvements to the Ferrwood Music Camp. Improvements included ADA-compliant restrooms and classrooms.

For over twenty years, CAN DO Community Foundation has been restoring and upgrading the former fresh air camp which was built in the 1920’s to care for children predisposed to tuberculosis.  The property was abandoned following the eradication of TB. Father Joseph Ferrara discovered the facility in 1967 and secured a lease for it with the Luzerne County Commissioners.  He and a crew of volunteers readied the facility to reopen. The music camps, health and wellness events, educational programs, and community concerts continue. Father Joe’s intention was not to make a great musician, but to make a great person and community member.
