Keystone College was granted $25,000 to establish a collaborative partnership with Veterans Stand Together (VST), a national organization founded and created by veterans that empowers veterans and the communities they serve. VST uses vocational training, community partners, and workforce opportunities, to provide services to veterans. VST’s East Coast headquarters will be located in the Elmer Hawk Veterans Center at Keystone College. VST also has locations in California, Arizona, and Florida. VST provides all veterans, who work with their organization, with supportive services including job placement assistance and peer support. The peer support system provides veterans with empowerment to encourage self-advocacy and a pathway toward long-term employability. VST establishes strong partnerships with other veterans serving organizations within the communities where they are headquartered. These partnerships include national and regional partners including Volunteers of America, Wilkes-Barre and Geno Merle Veterans Center. The partnerships will assist in the provision of vocational training services, recruitment of veterans and their families, provision of supportive services that will support long term employability, and job placement. Keystone College with VST will establish the Work, Earn, Learn (WEL) program, part of a larger Health Sciences Initiative based upon the apprenticeship model. WEL is designed to provide educational training that addresses the workforce needs of the health care sector for veterans and their families. WEL utilizes an apprenticeship model to assist program participants in acquiring the necessary skills and competencies for employment in the health care sector.
