Mansfield University received a grant of $126,000 from AllOne Foundation to develop a resource center to support and coordinate services for children and adults with autism and their families.
Goals of the university program are to provide social and transition skills instruction to adolescents, provide a resource library, and to work with cadets in university academy to increase awareness of the needs of students and adults with autism.
The Autism Resource Center has been training local clinicians in a social skills and therapeutic model to support social skill instruction for adolescents. Upcoming, groups will be offered in either a face-to-face model or via Zoom to local adolescents who are interested in this.
Training information for the Mansfield University Municipal Police Academy is being developed to increase awareness and understanding when working with victims who are diagnosed with autism.
The resource center is also holding 2 transition institutes for high school students who want additional information on transition to post-secondary training oremployment.
The center is offering a lending library to local families and teachers who with those impacted with autism.
