Meals on Wheels of the Greater Lehigh Valley (MOWGLV) received a $5,000 grant from AllOne Charities to provide vital meals to seniors in Carbon County.
MOWGLV started delivering meals in Carbon County in February 2020 through partnerships with St. Luke’s and Meals on Wheels of Palmerton. MOWGLV delivers in two different towns in Carbon County and locations where volunteers pick up meals for delivery. The two locations are: Bowanstown in partnership with St. Luke’s Innovations and Palmerton in partnership with Palmerton Meals on Wheels delivered by their volunteers.
In the first six months of the award, MOWGLV provided free meals to eleven high-need clients identified by St. Luke’s Hospital in the Bowmanstown/Lehighton area. These clients received 1,597 meals. MOWGLV also provided reduced price meals to 13 private pay clients in the Palmerton area. These clients received 2,170 meals.
MOWGLV’s CEO Vicki Coyle states, “We are grateful that the AllOne Charities recognizes the importance of healthful and supportive senior nutrition. This gift keeps meals affordable to a population that is on a fixed income. If our clients consistently receive meals tailored to their individual medical conditions, they are better able to manage their health and live independently. Thank you, AllOne for being our partner in healthy nutrition.”
