AllOne Charities funding in collaboration with the Sordoni Foundation to expand Volunteers in Medicine’s chronic disease management program which would include establishing a wellness program. The goal is to enhance the program by establishing a wellness services for the patients. Many patients come to VIM and state they have not felt well for years. After lab work provided free to the patient, VIM diagnoses patients with severe diabetes or hypertension. The program would assist with helping patients that may have symptoms of pre- diabetes by educating them on a healthy lifestyles as well as provide face to face meetings with a Clinical pharmacist, exercise classes, appointments with a registered dietitian, free lab work and free medications.
Volunteers in Medicine (VIM) is a community-based nonprofit organization established to provide primary and preventative medical, dental and behavioral health services to working low income populations of Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. The VIM Clinic is a nonprofit 501c (3) organization operating solely through grants, donations and proceeds from special events. VIM is not federally funded and does not charge for services. VIM provides services to those that work with a household income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines and have no access to affordable health insurance or medical care. There is a screening process where the patient provides pay stabs, tax return, photo id and proof of residents. VIM is truly for those that are falling through the cracks of the healthcare system. They work but make a few dollars more than Medicaid guidelines. VIM was established 14.5 years ago as the only full time, full service free clinic in northeastern Pennsylvania and remains today.
