Pocono Mountains United Way, in partnership with St. Luke’s University Health Network (SLUHN) and Carbon-Monroe-Pike Drug & Alcohol Commission (CMPDA), received a $234,834 grant from AllOne Foundation & Charities to help address the opioid crisis in Monroe and Carbon Counties. The goal of this collaboration is to strengthen and complement current substance abuse programs, such as CMPDA’s case management and warm hand-off programs, in an effort to reduce opioid use and deaths in our area. As a part of this collaboration, SLUHN will conduct trainings that are designed to increase knowledge and referral rates to the warm hand-off case managers, reduce stigma and barriers to care and treatment and to improve outcomes of the SLUHN Crisis Team. SLUHN will also take a “community educator” role, providing Naloxone education and distribution throughout the two counties as well as presentations to schools districts, community-based organizations, and the business community.
The grant from AllOne Foundation will also help fund permanent drug take back boxes, electronic health records outcome tracking and an opioid-specific resource guide. Finally, the program will also provide community education through marketing campaigns that promote general knowledge of the opioid crisis, available community resources and how individuals can help address and change this crisis facing our communities.
