AllOne Charities recently presented a $15,000 grant to The Burke Center in Tunkhannock, PA. These funds will be used to establish a hardship fund to provide behavioral and mental health services for uninsured and underinsured individuals. This fund will allow community members access to in-person and virtual outpatient mental health services, including counseling through the “Access Approved” fund.
The Burke Center was established in 2016 as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and offers mental health evaluations; individual, couples, and family therapy; psychiatric evaluations; medication management; and blended case management for residents of Wyoming, Bradford, Sullivan, and Susquehanna counties. AllOne Charities and the Wyoming County Community Foundation both approved funding for the new “Access Approved” program.
“The pandemic opened our eyes to a national mental health crisis that has directly or indirectly affected the majority of Americans,” said Burke Center founder and executive director Jessica Burke. “And things are no different here in rural Pennsylvania, where distance and limited access to most health services can increase feelings of isolation. The grants from AllOne Charities and the Wyoming County Community Foundation will provide a starting point for building this critical resource that can be accessed by those in our community on an as-needed, first-come, first-served basis.”
